Item #9826 Traejectum. G. BRAUN, F. HOGENBERG.
A Beautiful Plan of a Medieval City
Utrecht.
[Cologne, 1572]

Traejectum.

13 x 18 ½ inches. Fine hand color; excellent condition.

An early plan of Utrecht depicting many structures dating back to the early Middle Ages, notably the centrally-located Dom Church, then known as the Cathedral of Saint Martin. The cathedral was built in the fourteenth century but never completed. In the 17th century the nave of the building collapsed, leaving the Dom Tower standing alone; it remains the tallest church tower in the Netherlands and is the symbol of the city of Utrecht. This plan appeared in Braun & Hogenberg's Civitatis Orbis Terrarum, the first printed atlas of city plans and views.
