l’Asie….

16 ¼ x 21inches. Original outline color; Excellent.

Fine example of a well-executed map Asia, ports, bishoprics, and archbishoprics established by Europeans in the Far East, and thus indicating the extent of European influence there. The spartan style of this map’s engraving exemplifies the more scientific approach of Parisian mapmakers as compared to the Dutch. Pierre Du Val, an accomplished, early French mapmaker, was nephew of the great Nicolas Sanson.
