4to (22 x 16 cm). 12 pp. Occasional foxing. Bound in modern boards. A very rare official register of preachers active in Paris and its suburbs during the Advent of 1685—a definitive “who’s-who” of the clergy in Paris during the Grand Siècle. Entries are organized by city sector (e.g., “En la Cité”, “Au Fauxbourg S. Germain”, “En l’Université”), then subdivided by specific parish, monastery, or church. For each entry, the directory provides the preacher’s name, ecclesiastical affiliation (such as religious order or educational background), and their specific Advent schedule. The list features several Jesuits—notably at Saint Eustache and the Conciergerie du Palais—as well as Augustinians, Benedictines, and Dominicans. Of particular interest is the listing for the Manufacture Royale des Gobelins (p. 11). Services there were conducted “pour les Flamands, & les Alemands” (“for the Flemish and the Germans”), likely catering to foreign weavers in the famed royal workshop who received the Word in their native languages. The final page of the register includes a list of four additional titles “qui sont fort utiles pour faciliter la pratique de l’Oraison” (“that are very useful for facilitating the practice of preaching”) available from the publisher. No copies traced in OCLC; one copy of an Easter edition, La liste generale de tous les predicateurs, avec les noms & qualitez de ceux qui doivent prescher le Caresme de la presente année 1685…, recorded in Poitiers.
