Attractive 18^th-century map of Japan. Zatta based his work on that of Bellin, whose 1736 map proved to be one of the most influential European depictions of Japan until the 19^th century.   Zatta was a major publisher working in Venice during the second half of the 18^th century.  He is highly regarded for his quality engraving and for his elegant illustrated books of Italian classics and maps.  The attractive cartouche on his map of Japan with its suggestive botanical flourishes is a fine example of his style.
