Plan of Galloon Bay On The Island of Hay-Nan where the Ship Earl of Sandwich Capt. Charles Deane wintered in 1776 and 77 Having lost her Passage to China Survey’d by Capt. John Haldane….

19 ¾ x 24 ¾ inches, Light offsetting, else excellent with wide margins on heavy paper.

Likely the earliest Western chart of what is now Hainan’s premier resort area—Yalong Bay--boasting the island’s finest beaches. The attractively engraved English chart, which appeared in the East India Pilot, provides a good visual representation of the shoreline, including a village, in addition to the expected navigational detail. Hainan, styled China’s Hawaii, is a rapidly developing resort center.
