De mundo nostro Sublunari Philosophia Nova. Opus posthumum.

4to. (7) ff., 316 pp., (2) ff., including title printed in red and black, and with 1 folding engraved plate opposite p. 173. Bound in contemporary calf, covers gilt ruled, spine with raised bands rebacked. Some toning, foxing and light hand soiling in margins, but generally very good.

Scarce first edition of Gilbert's only other published work, whose first section contains "an extension of the cosmological ideas Gilbert introduced into the last section of de Magnete; it is dependent on the latter work for much of its vocabulary and basic assumptions..." (DSB V.397). Posthumously published and edited by the author's brother, the title consists of a meteorology composed before de Magnete and a cosmology composed after, and thus serves to round out the author's intellectual biography.

* * Wheeler 1312; Willems 1128; Suzanne Kelly in DSB V.396-401.
