8vo. (6 ¼ x 6 inches). ). Gold & silver stamped on cloth over heavy boards, minor soiling & wear; 66 pp plus advertisements, two illustrations of fishing paraphernalia. With a large folding lithographed map with hand color: "Correct Map of Florida Showing the Jacksonville Tampa and Key West System And Connections…1889" 27 x 15 ½ inches; repaired tears at mount else excellent. Overall a clean, very attractive copy.

An uncommonly attractive, very scarce, angling work, with a striking binding featuring a silvered, leaping tarpon, on the lore and "capture" of this celebrated fish. This small-press production, by the The Anglers' Publishing Co., doubled as an early promotional vehicle for Florida tourism, abetted in this by the large folding map of the state appended in it. The map emphasizes the ease of rail travel over the entirety of the state, including rail connections to steamship lines from Tampa and Punta Gorda to Key West. An inset map shows connections between Florida's rail lines with those of much of the rest of the United States.
The work covers the subject comprehensively but in the informal, folksy style of an old-salt fishing guide. Several pages of ads at the end of the work--for hotels, tackle shops, railways, etc.--undoubtedly help to fund this elegant little publication.
