10 ½ x 16 inches, Fine hand color; mounted on acid-free paper, some marginal repairs, overall very good.
An attractive, scarce, richly detailed view of London from an uncommon perspective--looking upriver to the west. The Tower complex is a bottom right, while St. Paul's is the focal point at center. All manner of commercial vessels fill the foreground, and London Bridge (foreground), Blackfriars (middle ground) and, around the bend, Westminster Bridge and Abbey are shown. The view was printed by Carrington Bowles and Carver, 69 St. Paul's Church Yard, London, and listed in their 1753 catalogue under Perspective Views in and about London. Another version was printed for C. Bowles' brother, John Bowles, located at Black Horse in Cornhill.
