Guide Map Of The City “Of San Francisco Compiled From The Official Surveys & Engraved Expressly For Langley’s San Francisco Directoy 1892.

21 11/4 x 26 ½. Illustrated advertisement on verso. Brightly hand-colored lithograph. Fine condition.

An unusually well-preserved, vibrant example of this highly informative plan of the thriving city, whose population at the time had surpassed 300,000. The city is close to filled in its northern part in the plan and can be seen expanding to the south. Each lot in the city has been numbered. Appropriately, this edition of the plan was sponsored by the McAfee, Baldwin & Hammond real estate company. It was published in Langley’s directory of the city, which first appeared in 1858 and remained in publication, though with various partners, through the 1940’s. Several different plans of the city were naturally used in the various editions. See San Francisco Directories Online on the web site of the SF Public Library.
The entire verso of plan is taken up by illustrations of industrial, farm and office equipment and machinery offered for sale by G. G. Wickson & Co.
