Plan de Paris divisé en 12 Arrondissements.

29 ¾ x 43 inches, Five joined sheets, together. Steel engraving with fine hand color; flattened folding map, minor fold wear, few mended splits in side margins, else excellent condition.

Scarce, finely engraved and colored, large-scale plan of Paris, designed and engraved by Charles Dyonnet (1822-1880), depicting the city just prior to Napoleon III and Haussmann’s reconfiguration of it. The work is framed by 30 well-detailed illustrations of the city’s major cultural and civic landmarks. Columns listing important Parisian streets, piazzas, theatres, libraries, etc. enable one to find anything from the Palais des Beaux Arts to the neighborhood butcher. The plan divides the city into 12 arrondissements as opposed to the current 20. Dyonnet held the position of “Graveur du Dépot de la Marine,” where he engraved numerous maps for the French Navy
