Item #10170 Britanniae Sive Angliae Regnum…. M. SEUTTER.
A Superbly Engraved Map of England
England.
[Augsburg, c. 1740]

Britanniae Sive Angliae Regnum….

22 ¼ x 19 ¼ inches. Fine original color; printed on heavy paper, trimmed to outer neatline for folding purposes, else fine with a bold strike.

Beautiful, separately published example of Seutter’s map of England. Because of the map’s strong printing impression, Seutter’s animated, highly pictorial engraving comes very much alive. Pastoral and classical images are blended: Mercury, patron god of commerce, gestures towards a fat flock of sheep and sacks of gold piled at the feet of Britannia while Neptune, god of the sea, points with proprietary pride at a fleet of ships.
