Unusual Composite Map of Germany
Germany/Elector States.
SCHEDEL, H. [Nuremberg, 1493] Electorum imperii institutio.
14 ¼ x 20 ¾ inches Fine hand color; usual centerfold reinforcement, else excellent.
A very striking and early composite map of Germany, highlighting the cities and states of Germany and Austria’s Elector-Princes, who were charged with electing the Holy Roman Emperor. Most of what were then Germany’s major cities—Ulm, Cologne, Strasbourg, and Hamburg—are included. On the verso, some of the Elector-Princes are depicted, while pages display the arms on shields of other regions.
