Erfurt/ Germany/ Martin Luther.
SCHEDEL, H. [Nuremberg, 1493] Ereordias.
15 x 20 ½ inches Hand-colored; some remnants of stamp pressings, minimal threadhole mends, very good.
A very early, attractive view of Erfurt, the capital city of Thuringia. At a time roughly contemporaneous with this view (1501-1511), Martin Luther was a student at the University of Erfurt, then one Germany’s leading universities and lived at the Augustinian monastery in the city. The view was published in the Nuremberg Chronicle, the first printed work to contain a substantial number of city views.
