Colombia/ Panama.
BLAEU, W. [Amsterdam, 1635] Terra Firma et Novum Regnum Granatense et Popayan Amstelodami Guilielmus Blaeuw excudit.
14 ¼ x 19 inches. Superb original color; fine condition.
A sterling example of Blaeu’s map of what is now Colombia and Panama. This beautifully engraved map was based on the cartography of Hessel Gerritsz, Blaeu’s sometime apprentice and the first exclusive chartmaker for the Dutch East India Company. Gerritsz had traveled on a voyage to the Caribbean and Brazil in 1628, and his charts graced De Laet’s Beschrijvinghe van West-Indiën in 1630.
